Our Guatemalan trip is coming to an end. We leave tomorrow night ( April 4th) on a red eye flight. We have enjoyed a lot of the Holy Week festivities, such as walking the streets of Antigua and seeing the beautiful carpets they make in the streets. (pictures below) They spend many hours, depending on how detailed they are, on these carpets. Then the floats come through the streets, carried by men on there shoulders,and they walk over them. It’s amazing how they carry the floats through the streets. The floats, which represent the death of Jesus, are so heavy and long. Men and women rotate each block. Watching there faces as they carry the floats, they are in pain. What gets me is they volunteer and pay to carry. Supposedly, it’s an honor to do so. This continues on a daily basis until Holy Week is over.
Anna, Sophie and I are walking the streets of Antigua while processions are going on. The building behind us is a Catholic church. It’s very beautiful lit up at night.
We again were able to spend some time and visit a ruin in Antigua. We had some beautiful views when walking around the top. It was cloudy, so photos don’t justify it.
